_{it's a dragon, isn't it.
you're not a person, you're a fire breathing monster,
sometimes i think you want to be.
just to prove me wrong,
that my philosophies are skewed;
everyone has good in them,
but you don't seem to believe so.
so i imagine
that you will create the darkest, most evil
hypocritical
demon you can dream up
and you will turn yourself into it.

there's a shepherd, a sheepdog
a sheep herd and a wolf
the wolf is terrible,
with those too-bright eyes,
that crooked grin,
and there are some damaged sheep,
weakened in their illness
good sheep with bad memories;
your prey. always.

it's a matter of opinion and choice
like whether you get sourdough bread or wheat;
i prefer sourdough, because
the scent is good and bitter and reminds me of
how i feel about you.

because you're special, you're unique,
and I absolutely hate how everyone loves you
just because you're a pretty sheep
hiding wolf eyes. or like a rose;
red and gorgeous and full to bursting, but!
it's starving for blood.
your own or others.

your sickness is infectious
--though that should be a given--
and i'm drawn to it like a firefly to darkness,
a murmuring moth to light.
each one wants to put itself amongst the other--
spreading shadows, spreading sunshine.
your sickness is infectious simply because
of how you pretend how healthy you are.
your dark heart has it's spiney tentacles wrapped around everyone's mind--
they'll take your hand and think you kind.

i've been nothing but there for them;
they still prefer you.

abuse me, not my open generosity,
my Halloween-candy-tasting care.
because those are more me than anything else
you can imagine--even the little glass bottles
half full of whiskey
with your name on them.

do you think i'm crazy?
well, sweetheart,
i have been. im not free, and
there's nothing you can do to change me.
because despite how you think yourself divine
you're simply the devil
and you have been
for the longest time.
